Founded in 1982 and based in Taiwan, Modern Art Gallery centers its practice on exhibition-making and long-term engagement with public art, sustaining the circulation and realization of art across both gallery settings and urban contexts.
Since its founding, the gallery has introduced major Western artists—Rodin, Renoir, Dalí, César, Hiquily, and Arman (ordered by year of birth)—to Taiwanese audiences, while also presenting key Chinese artists such as Sanyu, Chu Teh-Chun, and Zao Wou-Ki in exhibitions across Asia, fostering cultural exchange between cities and regions.
The gallery’s public art practice can be traced back to 1993, when it planned Yu-Yu Yang (Yang Yingfeng)’s landscape sculpture project for National Golf Country Club, establishing a working approach in which artwork, site, scale, and time are conceived as a single, integrated whole. Modern Art Gallery continues to develop public sculpture and large-scale projects in collaboration with architecture, institutions, and urban environments—positioning art beyond display, for long-term encounter, use, and remembrance within the lived landscape.
