An International Art Extravaganza Art possesses the power to transcend language, culture, and nationality, directly touching the human heart with its communicative force. It is a unique language and a force that breaks boundaries. The 2023 Taipei International Art Fair (Art Taipei) will once again become a vital platform for this universal language, uniting artists, collectors, and art enthusiasts from around the world in the pursuit of creative excellence. In this quintet's tour of the art world, we will step into modern galleries to explore the artistry of Joseph Wong, Shih Li-Jen, Sohn Paa, Somsak Chaituch, and Jiang Miao. These five artists hail from diverse cultural backgrounds, but they share a common mission: to showcase unique creativity and depth through art. During this art journey, we will traverse time, savor compassion, feel the acupressure of sound, explore the beauty of abstraction, and ultimately immerse ourselves in the whirlwind of energy. Each artist is a unique note in this tour, presenting you with a visual feast full of inspiration and contemplation.

Entering Joseph Wong 's Comic World Our art journey begins at the gallery of Joseph Wong. Professor Joseph Wong is renowned for his work on the classic Chinese comic "Lao Fu Zi" (Old Master Q), which he has extended into different artistic realms. His latest work allows us to see Lao Fu Zi (Old Master Q) liberated from the confines of fixed four-panel and six-panel frames, appearing as the main character on canvas. This transformation presents us with different visual dimensions, symbolizing the image of Lao Fu Zi through rich colors and forms, creating a delightful effect. These works combine Professor Joseph Wong 's architectural background and his love for music, resulting in a unique artistic style that immerses the audience, offering a taste of collective joy and memory..

Shih Li-Jen, known as "Mr. Rhino," merges craftsmanship, symbolism, and environmental awareness in his diverse rhinoceros-themed artworks. His works have graced prestigious venues like the Venice Biennale (2017) and European museums. Rhinoceros sculptures by Shih Li-Jen adorn various public spaces in Taiwan. At the Art Taipei, his latest masterpiece, "Caricature Rhinos," portrays rhinoceroses in four distinct stages of life, each radiating warmth and humor.

Compassion in Sculpture - Shih Li-Jen's Rhinoceros Next, we visit the gallery of Shih Li-Jen, often referred to as the "Mr. Rhino." He is best known for his rhinoceros sculptures, which not only embody the heritage of Chinese civilization but also profoundly reflect the core concept of "compassion" in Confucian philosophy. Shih Li-Jen sculpts endangered rhinoceroses, infusing them with the kindness and care of "compassion," emphasizing mutual understanding and coexistence among individuals. Shih Li-Jen's large-scale sculptures have been exhibited across Europe and Asia and have made him the first artist to participate in both the Venice Art and Architecture Biennales. His rhinoceros sculptures can be found in various public art landscapes in Taiwan and China. At this art fair, he will unveil his latest masterpiece, "Comic Rhinoceros," offering the audience colorful and vibrant blessings. These sculptures are filled with vitality, symbolizing attitudes in different stages of life, including " Stepping Forward," " Pop dance," " Skyrocket," and " Deep-pocketed." Shih Li-Jen's work offers a profound reflection on life, hope, and compassion.

The Sound of Acupressure - Sohn Paa's Unique Art Language Next, we arrive at the gallery of Sohn Paa, an artist who uses acupuncture pins, unique to Chinese traditional medicine, as his medium. These pins represent subtle pain that leads to the broad vistas of healing and recovery. Sohn Paa's work also embodies the artist's courage and spirit in facing unknown emotions. By applying millions of pins to his artworks, each pin becomes a dynamic note, and abstract vocabulary allows him to create "paintings" that transcend color, strokes, and space restrictions. Sohn Paa's work breaks the boundaries of art, exploring cultural roots and the essence of art, propelling him to the international art scene, with participation in the 2017 Venice Biennale. The artist's work prompts viewers to engage in profound reflection on pain, recovery, and humanity, intertwining medicine and art.

Abstract Expressionism of Somsak Chaituch The Thai-Dutch artist Somsak Chaituch's work combines his observations growing up in Thailand and the inspiration of Dutch natural landscapes, transforming these experiences into the beauty of art on canvas. He is renowned for his exceptional abstract expressionist painting, with multiple international awards and exhibitions in art fairs, museums, and galleries worldwide. Somsak Chaituch's work exudes vitality, with each stroke representing an emotional eruption. The artist's work offers viewers the opportunity to contemplate the relationship between nature and humanity and how abstract art can express emotions and perspectives in different ways.

The Whirlwind of Energy - Jiang Miao's Cosmic Beauty Finally, we arrive at Jiang Miao's gallery, where the artist combines visual arts, metaphysics, and the unknown into her creative elements, presenting the uniqueness of her work. Her art uses the technique of printmaking to add texture and imagery to acrylic abstract paintings, creating a rich and vibrant purity of color. These markings bring depth and dynamism to flat structures, resulting in layered abstract paintings. The colors in the images release the accumulated energy of Jiang Miao, representing the energy "whirl" present in the macrocosm of the universe. The artist's work offers viewers a fresh perspective on the world, contemplation of life's existence, and the interconnectedness of energy.
